When heading to the country, there are some really cool Oahu North Shore hikes and waterfalls worth checking out if you have time. Many of these Oahu hiking trails are fairly manageable, along the coast, and many rewarding views along the way.
Experience the breathtaking beauty of Oahu's North Shore with a journey through lush forests, majestic waterfalls, and panoramic coastal views. Begin your adventure at Waimea Falls, where a leisurely stroll through botanical gardens leads to the stunning cascade of Waimea Falls.
For those seeking a bit more of a challenge, the Ehukai Pillbox Hike offers a moderate trek with rewarding vistas of the famed Banzai Pipeline surf break and surrounding coastline. For an exploration of rugged coastline and pristine wilderness, venture to Kaena Point, where a coastal trail leads to a scenic lookout and the opportunity to spot Hawaiian monk seals and seabirds.
Also don't miss the scenic vistas and historic sites along the Kahuku Point trail, where you can soak in panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and learn about the area's rich cultural heritage. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a peaceful escape into nature, Oahu North Shore hikes and waterfalls offers something unforgettable for every adventurer.
Don’t miss a breathtaking Oahu waterfall across the street from Waimea Bay Beach Park. It’s located in the Waimea Valley Audubon Center (formerly known and sometimes still referred to as “Waimea Falls Park”).
This is a fun place to take a stroll with the family! There is a small entrance fee to these botanical gardens, but well worth the admission to stroll the grounds with over 300 species of tropical plants and a stunning view of a 50 ft waterfall at the end of the trail.
Tie on a visit to Waimea Falls Park with an evening luau dinner with cultural demonstrations and Hawaiian entertainment. The Toa Luau includes your entrance to Waimea Valley & Waterfall.
Just make sure you give yourself enough time to get back in time for the festivities. Note that this luau only takes place on Mon - Wed. Learn more and reserve a spot...
Nobody thinks of hiking ridges when searching things to do on the North Shore, but there is a hidden trail known as the Ehukai Pillbox Hike. I consider it one of my favorite Oahu North Shore Hikes.
Some refer to it as the Sunset Pillbox Hike, as it resides behind the Sunset Elementary School, and has the best sunset views! This intermediate hike will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the first of two military pillboxes that sit at the top.
Above Waimea Bay is one of Oahu’s largest well preserved heiau (ancient Hawaiian sacred site), known as Puu O Mahaka State Monument.
Today much of the boundary walls are in great condition, and they border the layout of the 2-acre site.
You can drive right up to this state monument, or hike a half mile up
from the eastern tip of Waimea Bay. Make sure to walk all the way
around, and capture the beautiful view of the bay from the bottom corner of
the heiau.
Ka’ena Point – where the road ends in the North Shore, is where the Oahu hiking trails start. Take a two and a half mile journey hiking to the westerly tip of the island.
Explore beautiful Ka’ena Point Park, trekking the sand dunes and the jagged coastline, and discovering a bird sanctuary park at the end.
Trek to Kahuku Point, the northernmost tip of Oahu that offers breathtaking ocean views and the chance to spot Hawaiian Monk Seals and wild seabirds in their natural habitat.
Embark on a 2.3-mile roundtrip trail that starts from the Turtle Bay Resort for an easy and rewarding adventure that typically takes an hour or two to complete, with scenic stops along the way. Popular among birding enthusiasts, hikers, and walkers alike, this trail promises encounters with fellow nature enthusiasts as you explore the pristine beauty of the North Shore.
Nestled in the northern region of Windward Oahu, this Oahu trail beckons with a captivating ridge and a serene twin waterfall, all encompassed within a moderate yet fulfilling 7-mile hike.
Begin your journey by getting your Laie Hiking Permit to hike this private property trail along a dirt road leading to Laie Ridge, where lush foliage, including majestic Cook Pines and tropical strawberry guava trees, welcome you along the way.
Traverse the ridge, soaking in the scenic vistas, before descending along a side trail into the valley, where you will find the picturesque Laie Falls. With its enchanting two-tiered cascade and tranquil pool at the bottom, this hidden gem offers a perfect spot to relax and relish in the beauty your journey.
Explore the vibrant North Shore of Oahu, where legendary big wave beaches like Pipeline and Sunset Beach await surf enthusiasts, while Sharks Cove attracts snorkelers to discover its vibrant marine life.
Wander through the charming streets of old town Haleiwa, browsing boutiques and galleries, before indulging in authentic Hawaiian shave ice and savory shrimp dishes from the famous shrimp trucks. Whether seeking adventure, culture, or culinary delights, the North Shore promises an unforgettable Hawaiian experience for all.
